Prozac Information

Fluoxetine HCl Tablets

Prozac is used to relieve mental depression in patients over 18 years of age and to treat obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and bulimia nervosa (an eating disorder where the patient binge-eats and then vomits)in adults. Order Page

   
   
   

Contraindications

Do not take this medication if you are allergic to this medicine; you are currently taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor within the past 14 days; you are taking or have taken thioridazine within the past 5 weeks.

How To Use

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not drink alcohol or take other medicines that cause drowsiness (eg, sedatives, tranquilizers) while taking this medicine. Contact your health care provider if rash or hives develop. Contact your doctor if depression returns. Diabetes patients - Your diabetes medication may need to be adjusted while taking this medicine. Do not use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of discontinuing treatment with an MAO inhibitor. After stopping this medication, wait at least 5 weeks before starting an MAO inhibitor. This medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Use with caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Notify your doctor if you develop thoughts of suicide. Improvement may not be seen for several days to a few weeks. Do not take any over-the-counter or prescription medications or dietary supplements without talking with your health care provider. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not stop taking this medicine without talking with your health care provider.

Side Effects

Every medicine can cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following occurs: Fever; seizures; suicidal tendencies; heart pounding. Anxiety; weakness; weight loss; loss of appetite; nausea; dry mouth;upset stomach; sleeplessness; nervousness; drowsiness; tremor; sweating; flu syndrome; headache; diarrhea; dizziness; sore throat; sinus inflammation;sweating; gas; changes in vision; rash; yawning; decreased sex drive; abnormal dreams; impotence; abnormal ejaculation. Chills; bleeding; increased appetite; vomiting; weight gain; agitation;amnesia; confusion; changes in behavior; sleep disorder; ear pain; changes in taste; ringing in the ears; frequent urination; increase in blood pressure.

Precautions

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding; if you are taking or stop taking any prescription or nonprescription medication; if you have a history of heart attack or unstable heart disease; if you have liver or kidney disease; if you have diabetes; if you have a history of substance abuse; if you have mania or hypomania; if you have any other medical conditions.

Missed Dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Storage

Store at room temperature (59 to 86 degrees F).
